How Old Will I be 3 Years From Now?

How Old Will I be 3 Years From Now?

How old am I

Answer

Let x be my present age. My age 3 years from now will be x + 3, and 3 times that will be 3 (x + 3). Similarly, my age 4 years from now will be x + 4, and 4 times that will be 4 (x + 4).

Adding the two gives 8 times my current age. This gives the equation:

3 (x + 3) + 4 (x + 4) = 8 x.

Solving the above equation gives

x = (3 × 3) + (4 × 4) = 25.

therefore in 3 years I will be 28.

The waiter Riddle

Answer

The payments should equal the receipts. It does not make sense to add what was paid by the men ($12) to what was received from that payment by the waiter ($2)

Although the initial bill was $15 dollars, one of the five dollar notes gets changed into five ones. The total the three men ultimately paid is $12, as they get three ones back. So from the $12 the men paid, the owner receives $10 and the waiter receives the $2 difference. $15 – $3 = $10 + $2.

Which Barrel Has Beer?

Which Barrel Has Beer?

Barrel bain teasers

hint

The merchant sold x gallons to one customer and 2x gallons to the other. That means that he has sold 3X gallons of wine in total. If you remove the gallon that has beer, the remaining barrels have to be able to be divided by 3.

Answer

Knowing that one shopper got 2X and the other 1X, with X being gallons of wine you can figure everything out.

If the Beer is in the

  • 15 Gallons Barrel – there are 104 gallons of Wine left
  • 16 Gallons Barrel – there are 103 gallons of Wine left
  • 18 Gallons Barrel – there are 101 gallons of Wine left
  • 19 Gallons Barrel – there are 100 gallons of Wine left
  • 20 Gallons Barrel – there are 99 gallons of Wine left
  • 31 Gallons Barrel – there are 88 gallons of Wine left

The only equation that works is 99 gallons of wine left because it can be divided by 3 evenly. (3X) = 99. X = 33 Shopper 1 went home with 33 Gallons of Wine (15 gallon and 18 gallon) Shopper 2 Went home with 66 Gallons (16 gallon, 19 gallon, and 31 gallon) and the merchant kept the 20 Gallon beer for himself.

String joke

Hint

There are Two ends to every string

Answer

Light both ends of the first string at the same time you light one end of the second string. When the first string is burned up, that will be the end of 30 minutes. This also means that 30 minutes have burned off the 2nd string. Now light the other end of the 2nd string. When the 2nd string is burned up 45 minutes has passed.
